Pins and Needles, Needles and Pins. It’s a Happy man who grins! – Ralph Kramden
Have you ever been sitting on your couch, watching your favorite movie, laughing, crying, just totally absorbed in it? You are taken away to another place, with not a worry in the world, for a couple of hours. Then, as the credits roll, you decide that you need to visit the bathroom, or the kitchen, or whatever. Maybe you weren’t sitting straight on the couch, with both feet on the floor, and your back straight.
Maybe you were lying on one side, with your arm over your head, and your head propped up in a funny position. Well, now, as you try to get up, it’s not so funny, is it?? You get that familiar feeling, that we’ve all had. Your arm, or your hand, or your legs have gone numb. They have “fallen asleep”, and it’s going to be a few minutes before you can move normally again. This is an all too common problem that we’ve all experienced. When we get it, we know exactly what we must do, and how long we have to wait, for the feeling to return to our arms and/or legs.
The feeling of having your arms or legs (or hands or feet) “fall asleep” on you, is never comfortable. This feeling is caused by being in an abnormal, or awkward position, and putting excess pressure on the nerves that go into your arms and legs. The energy gets cut off, and after a while, the body sends out a warning sign, saying “HELP!” “I’m not getting enough energy! There’s going to be a problem soon!”
Numbness and tingling is a sign that your nerves aren’t able to do their job effectively, most likely because of a “pinch” or a “kink”, somewhere in the nervous system. If your nerves are kinked, the brain can’t get energy through them, to the muscles, organs and cells that so desperately require them. If your posture is weakened, or distorted, it puts the same type of kink or pinch on your spinal cord. When your brain can’t get energy through your spinal cord, to your body, you could feel numbness, tingling, burning, or itching sensations.
Some may have weakness in their arms or legs. You may feel clumsy, like you’re dropping things that you’d normally hold on to, or maybe your grip isn’t as strong as it used to be. Or, maybe your legs feel like they weigh 500 lbs, and it takes a real effort to move them. Worst of all, you might not feel ANY of these things, but your organs and cells still aren’t getting the energy that they need. You may not think you have a problem now, but without enough nerve energy, your organs and tissues will progressively weaken, and break down, and eventually result in disease and symptoms.
If you’re living in the Hillsdale New Jersey area and are experiencing numbness, or tingling, or weakness, even if it’s “not that bad”, or “just once in a while”, don’t wait! Come get your posture checked TODAY! If you have postural distortions, we may be able to help. If you don’t, then we’ll tell you that too, and we’ll work to get you the proper care that you need. Either way, it’s not going to get any better if you just ignore it, because you’re “too busy”. You can’t take care of anyone or anything else, if you don’t have your health.
